Possible Ferreira to Ferris? emigrated to Somerville, Massachusetts

My GGgrandfather was a Walter Ferris who had a son Joseph Robert Ferris b. 12/5/1901 in Somerville, MA d. 4/20/1958 who married my gandmother Anastacia "Anee Marie" Fennelly b. 12/13/1903-d.4/2/1991. They had a daughter Dorothy Ferris, my grandmother b7/23/1923 d.9/10/2004 of leukemia who had my mother Joyce Ann Adams. I know nothing of Walter's spouse or origin.

However, he should be of at least part Portuguese or Azorean extraction. My mother and grandmother always said I was part Portuguese and believed Walter was the one who came to the states and perhaps Americanized the name to Ferris to shorten it. We have distant relatives by the name of daSilva-- one was a cop for Somerville police and/or Morales who lived in Somerville as well.

Any possible link that could be made into the family would be appreciated. Walter's spouse is the only link in this generation I do not have.

Thanks so much.
Lynda Blair Vernalia
