SARAH JANE SPAW, daughter of WM. and LOUISE SPAW, was born in Fayette County, Penn., November 9th, l843, and died at the family home in Corydon, Iowa, January 9, l924, aged 80 years and 2 months.

She was married to WM. FERREN on March 6, l862. To this union three children were born, CHARLES E., who preceded his mother in death, JOHN E., of Upland Nebr., and WM. A., of Martinsburg, West Virginia. Their father died August l6, l868.

She was married to WM. HUGHES, January 2, l872, and to this union six children were born, WALTER and ETTA S., who have preceded their mother in death. The living are H.O. HUGHES, of Upland, Nebr.; S.J. HUGHES, of Los Angeles, Cal.; LULLA HUGHES BLIZZARD, of Rocky Ford, Colo.; and FRED G. HUGHES, of Ketchum, Oklahoma. WM. HUGHES, the father, died March 27, l9l9. MRS. HUGHES leaves six children, nine grandchildren, two sisters and one brother to mourn their loss.

In her early life MRS. HUGHES joined the Baptist Church. In moving to Corydon her letter was afterwards misplaced and she never reunited with the church, yet she always loved the things that turned our minds and hearts toward the one who sacrificed so much for erring humanity.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the M.E. Church, conducted by Rev. A.P. Keast. Interment was made in the Corydon Cemetery.
