Many of us in the U.S. with the surname "Ferrin" are descendants of Capt. Jonathan Farren of Amesbury, MA, b. about 1697 m. Sarah Wells about 1709. They produced a number of children who did not spell their surname uniformly. There is a branch of this family spelling it "Ferrin", and others spelling it Farren or Ferren. Many lines of descent from this New England family are fairly well documented into the early twentieth century. Check the card catalog at the Family History Library for specific microfilms. Maybe your great grandfather is among them.
