Captain William Judd Fetterman was born in 1835 in Connecticut. I believe his father was George Fetterman and his mother was Anna Maria c. Judd and they were married 18 April 1831 in New London, Conn. Neither parent lived very long after his birth and he was raised by his uncle Henry Bethel Judd. Henry grad. WP 14 th in his class , 2Lt 3rd art, 1 Jul 1839, severed in Mexican war 1847 and civil war died 27 jul 1892.
William Judd Fetterman, appointed 1st Lt 18th Inf. 14 May 1861. Capt. 25 Oct 1861 tr. to 27 inf. 21 sep 1866/ Brvt Maj. 31 Dec 1862 Battle of Murfreesburo, tenn. Brvt Lt Col. 1 Sept 1864 Battle of Jonesburo. He taught he could whip the entire Sioux nation with one troop Red Cloud proved him wrong. I belive the Judd line ties to my Judds but I have not yet made the connection.
