John Francis and Lucille Fick were my great-grandparents. So many fond memories of going to their farm. Unfortunately all that remains is the Smoke house that was on the property. It was removed and relocated to be preserved as a historical structure.
John and Lucille had two children, Jack and Doris. Doris passed in 1993. As far as I know Jack is still alive. I do not know much about my Great uncle Jacks family except that they inherited the beer business and I believe still own and operate J.F. Fick, Inc.
in 1936 John Fick opened an Anheuser-Busch beer distribution facility in Dumfries right across from the farm. The business moved several times as it grew and is now in Frederickburg. www.jffick.com/company/history/ that link provides the historical data about the ficks involved with the company.
In addition to the beer business, John was very active in the community. He was a volunteer fire-fighter, was involved in local politics, sold insurance, and had several other properties around triangle and the Town of Quantico.
Doris married Thomas Moody, and they had two girls. Gail Brown of Stafford County, VA and Susie Agnew of Alabama. Thomas was a Virginia State Trooper, avid hunter and fisherman.
The Farm had several homes on the property. The original structure sat at the top of the hill, with a much smaller Bungalow at the bottom near the entrance. In time an additional home was built between them where John and Lucille lived. By the pond there was a small house where a full time farm employee lived. There were numerous barns and storage buildings scattered over the farm.
