Thanks for responding & for the offer! I read the book by Viva Fickes a year ago, and made no connection to my line at that time. I am stumped. I descend from a John Fickes, b abt 1781 in PA, probably Cumberland County. A gg aunt wrote that he was married to a Reutisill. They had 2 sons; Jacob & John Jr. They moved west-John Jr. was born in Ohio. They settled in Coles County, Illinois abt 1831. I don't know what happened to John's wife, but he remarried in 1849 to Lucy Webb. He died abt 1853. I descend from John Jr.
The LDS web site shows a John Fickes m. 1806 to Mary Elizabeth Rudysill in Cumberland Co. PA, but only shows 3 daughters & no sons. I think this is my guy though, but am not sure.
I would love to hear from you, even if we don't connect. I am also in contact with a few other people researching the Fickes surname & were not sure if were connected either. You can e-mail me directly if you'd like.
