I checked my notes again, and in the 1860 census Coles County, Pleasant Grove Twnsp. there was a Mary Fickes, age 24 b. in Indiana living in the household of John Fickes. I assumed that she was a niece or some other relative because of the age difference. He was 45 and was widowed in 1859 when his wife Lydia died. John's sons, John D. and Charles were also there, as well as two children I know nothing about. One was Thomas Wildee (7) and the other Sarah Wildee (5). They were both born in Indiana. Anything sound familiar? Could this be your Mary Carpenter Fickes?
