Thanks for your response! The only evidence of John's birth is the 1850 census where his age is listed as 69 (1781). I have written information from a gg aunt that said he was born in "VA in 1775". I think he was definitly born in PA though.

John's wife was most likely Mary (Maria) Elizabeth Rudysill (the gg aunt wrote her name was "Reutisill" with no known first name). The church records for Memorial Lutheran Church in Shippensburg, PA recorded the births of their children Leah (1807), Elizabeth (1808) and Salome(1810). I have not found the births of the other children: Catherine, John, Jacob, all born in PA. The second youngest was George who was born in Mifflin, PA in 1821 (per Civil War records). The last was born in OH as they headed west (Samuel).

I have not ruled out John's parents being Isaac and Rachel. However, there were other John Fickes's in the area too. My line never carried down the names Isaac or Rachel either. I believe Isaac left a Will, but I'm still not sure if that's my John. Also, his wife used the name "Elizabeth" in land records. In the birth records for her children she went by Maria Elizabeth and Elizabeth.

I have not heard of the Fickes Report...is that new? Do you know where I can obtain a copy? I would really love to resolve some of the missing links in this family.
