I am not positive of the origin of the name Fickes, but my ancestors were of German descent. I don't know who my immigrant ancestor was, but his son spoke German. The Jost Fickes family came from Bavaria abt 1732 & settled in central PA.
The name is pronounced "fih-kus".
The Valentine Ficus you refer to is probably a Fickes & related to Jost Fickes.
I don't know if there is a connection to the name Fiscus, but it's always possible. Other similar names are Ficks, Ficke, Fikes.
Where in Pennsylvania did your Fiscus family settle? Mine were in Cumberland, York & Adams Counties.
