I found information on a James Monroe Fickes who fought in the Civil War. He was a Private, Co. G. He enlisted at age 18 from Shellsburg, PA. It said he was the son of Valentine and Elizabeth Fickes. This couldn't be possible since Valentine was born in 1709. It would have to be another Val and Elizabeth. He Mustered in Feb. 18, 1862 at age 18. He was discharged Nov. 18, 1862. Surgeon's Certificate died Dec. 8, 1862 East St. Claire, Bedford Ct. PA. He is buried in the Fishertown Cemetery. If anyone knows anything more about this James Fickes let me know. It would be nice to know who his parents were.
