Help find my George W Bridges

I guess I need help finding my George Wesley Bridges who was born around 1842. Not known where. Last known residence was in South Haven, Michigan Van Buren County 1870 census.

He had been married to a Mary Coats and supposedly they had a son named Morris (Maurice, Mont) in West Olive, Michigan in 1870.

There is some confusion as to what happened to George Wesley Bridges. It is reported that he and wife Mary were present at the wedding of Morris to Mary Eva Manning in Fruitport, MI in 1889. But yet records show that George's wife Mary Coats married a Daniel Fifield in 1877, 7 years after the birth of Morris. Further.....there is no child named Morris Bridges listed as being a child of Mary & George Bridges......but instead is listed as a child of Daniel and Mary Runnels Field........same name and DOB.

The Fifield line I am not concerned with at this point, but instead desperately seeking information on this George Wesley Bridges. Did he die? Did he and Mary Coats divorce? Were they never married?

Please help
