Hi cousins Im Jeremy figg, son Of Leonard henry cooper Figg Essex England, We also have a family history that we are decendant of the Great James Figg, Pugilist, 1695 Oxforshire England - Dec 8th 1734 Burial @ Old Parish Church of Saint Marylebone London England, I also have heard that he had at least one child. I have found it difficult however to trace a direct line back, I know he had a school (or booth) at Southwark Fair and was a friend of Hogarth (Painter and silversmith)who designed is hand bills. There was also a Silversmith, John willam Figg (and son of same name) both listed at GoldSmiths Hall London (I have examples of thier work which is Good) They worked out of Clerkenwell and SoHo London. I find it interesting that most Figg's seem to have the same family story regarding James Figg, perhaps he had a few more children than were actually recorded !! (I think the practice was to be recorded at baptism, possibly later in life). I have enjoyed the Forum - good hunting Jeremy Notify Administrator about this message?
