Jeremy:
You should have a look at the biography of James Figg at the thamehistory web site. I have been trying to locate trace the family of James Figg, as well. I am trying to trace the movement of the Figg families in the 1600 and 1700's in order to locate the family of James Figg. While the Oxford families do not seem to quite fit, there is a better match of Figg families across the Thame in adjacent parishes. A closer study of these parish records is required.
We have talked before. Another englishman claiming descendancy from James Figg, pugilist is Joe Figg. He has a web site. His is a good claim. His family comes from the right side of the Thame, from Dinmore parish in the adjacent county. I have purchased a print of Holbein(?)which has Figg and 2 other fighters. I have found on the internet the death notice of James Figg in a monthly publication of the time. Feel free to e-mail me directly.
