Hobday, Francis, of Glouchester Co, Pilot, Entered service
early in 1776, and continued to end of war (Henry,
Tarter and Dragon). Piloted the French Fleet into York
River, and when they went away he piloted some of the
French vessels that remained. LBP. Testimony of Henry
Hobday, Waitlington Buchanan and WM FIGG. Hodge, Joseph,
War 5, 89. (Norfolk). Hog, Charles, H.D. 1833-34,
Doc. 33,13. Hodgen, Matthew, War 5, 88.
Wm Watlington Buchanan filed for a pension for services
during the Rev War(several items relating to this pension
filing). "Petitions of Early Inhabitants of Ky to the
Gen Assy of Va 1769-1792: Wmsburg Nov 28, 1778 W.
Buchanan. Could not find him in the 1830 Cen of Glouchester
after going page by page. There is a Wm W. Buchanan in
the 1830 Cen of Lawrance Co, KY. All the same man????
Buchanan surname lists has data on a Wm W. Buchanan, b
Pa, gives his parents, but was in NC before going to KY.
Could not find data on Francis or Henry Hobday tho there
were Hobdays in the 1830 Cen of Glouchester.
Could not find any Hodges in the 1830 Cen of Glouchester.
This William Figg is of the age to be a son of Thomas
FIGG of Montrose, MA (see his posting) of the 1778
Rev War service in Providence (RI???). Served 3 years.
Slowly trying to check m records of various eastern
states to find the Figgs. Apparently not very many in
Va & those were passing through?????
