Hi. Know very little about the Figg family but can help out with the Pead connection. According to my research Mary Pead was number eight of eleven (possibly twelve) children of William Pead (Peed(e))and Catharine Rawlins. They were married at Deptford St Paul 21 Feb 1762; both made their marks. Catharine was buried 11 Nov 1792 and I believe William Pead was buried 15 Nov 1824 aged 85. Children were John (Peede) c: 31/3/1762; William Pead c:6/4/1766; Richard (Peede) c: 14/2/1768; James Pead c:26/11/1769; Elizabeth (Peed) c:22/9/1771; Rachel Pead 11/7/1773; Thomas (Peed)c:22/10/1775; Mary Pead c: 20/7/1777; James (Peed) c: 26/9/1779; Ann (Peed)c:25/11/1781; Catharine(Peed) c:14/12/1783 and possibly Jane d: 1/6/1780. One site links this William Pead with a William Pead c: 29/7/1731 St Mary Colechurch, London, (son of Leonard & Anne Pead)but as this William died 14/2/1733 it appears unlikely to say the least. Unfortunately this error has been replicated elsewhere - (always best to do your own research). William Pead was described variously as a gardener or labourer from New Cross. Deptford St Paul was consecrated 1730 prior to that the parish church was St Nicholas, but I have found no records of any 'Pead'. Deptford is a corruption of Depeford (deep ford) and was little more than a fishing village until Henry VIII made a Royal Dock there. Originally in Kent, Deptford is now well and truly part of London. There is a possible 'Rawlins' family connection to St Margaret, Lee, Kent, a neighbouring parish. Hope this is of some help.

Robert
