Hi Lara.
Have recently seen your postingson the Figgins searches you have been making.
I think I may have traced my grandmother Rebecca Figgins back to the same family at 130 Whitecross St. She was born in May 1881 so missed the 1881 census. I found her on the 1901 census living in St George the Martyr, Southwark. Her birth place is stated as St Lukes. She married Albert Edward Morgan within a couple of years of the 1901 census (date not sure yet). Together they had 10 children (one being my mum Ivy Morgan). One of her brothers was Alfred Ephriam Morgan and some of my Uncles and Aunts had the familiar bible names Edith, Rebecca, Joseph etc. it all seems to tie up. Unfortunately only two are still with us, Luckily one of them is Ivy my mum, who is now 83.
She has told me that she did not know her grandfather, or his name until I found it out. She was told though, that he was disowned by his family because he married beneath himself. The family apparently were quite rich and important.
Another little twist to the story as far as we know is,that when Rebecca met Albert Morgan and married,Ephriam met Albert Morgan's mother and ended up marrying her. I recon that was his third wife. I think his first two children Susan & Ephraim were with his first wife. Then there's a gap of 7 years between children and a trip to Canada perhaps with a second wife. Then sometime after 1901 a third wife.
I've also done a search today at familysearch.org, for Jonathan Figgins mentioned in one of your postings. It came back with one born on 22 Jan 1804 in Trowbridge Wiltshire. Its a long shot, but who knows it's a possibility the date would probably work.
I've only found all this out in the past couple of days and have not yet got any certificates etc. to prove any of it,but I think I'll probably start investing very soon.
Please mail me if you manage to find anything else out.
