Babs, Thanks for that.I have Moorhouse ancestors in the Pontefract area as my mother is a Moorhouse descendent.Pontefract is near the river Aire and was an area for lime quarries and shipping of coal.It's 2 miles from Ferrybridge,9 from wakefield, 13 from Leeds, 15 from Doncaster, 24 from York and 177 from London. It's in the West Riding of Yorkshire often referred to as W.R.Y.The Genuki website provides some good historical information for this area. There's also a Pontefract Family History group but no-one was researching my name. Sue
