According to family information Henry Oliver File came to Bond County shortly after 1820-22 with some of his sons and several members of the Volentine family. They brought their cattle and built a barn to store the hay they harvested to feed the cattle over the winter, (near Rt 140 and Shoal Creek). The barn was struck by lightening and burned. Subsequently they shipped the cattle to New Orleans to be sold and went back to Tennessee (where they had left their families) to winter with their families. The following spring they returned to Bond County and rebuilt their barns, built homes and stayed. Henry Oliver brought 2 slaves with him that he valued greatly, respected and loved. They stayed with him until their deaths and are buried along Shoal Creek at a place they loved.

Tobias File 1st married Sarah Gillespie in 1830, after her death in 1850 he married Sina (Fannie) Cook in 1850. Fannie died in about 1875 and Tobias married Hannah Baker in 1876. She died in May 1894 only 4 months after Tobias' death.

I have visted the File Cemetery off Pocahontas Rd and and seen the centennial farm along there. I have not visited the Tobias File Cemetery and am not sure how to find it. I found that it is in Burgess Twp, Section 27, SW 1/4, 135 North Rd and 525 East Rd at the end of Alder Ave. We did make one trip out there before I had the coordinates. I am hoping to get out there in the near future..any exact directions would be appreciated!

I received the above family information from Owen Eudell File, deceased, g-g-g-grandson of Henry Oliver File.
