Arbin:

If your grandfather had the name Manley, he has to be related to the Files
family descending from John Files b. 1738 in Augusta Cty, VA d 1781 in SC. He
was married to Catherine Manley b. 1740 in Augusta Cty, VA, d. 12/16/1816.
there is a story of the John Files on the Website of Melaney Moore at:

http://www.cdlr.tamu.edu/mmdhome/files/files1.htm

Your William Manley is not listed on that website, and neither is mine. She
lacks at times second spouses and their children. But, there is no doubt that
if the name Manley and Files are linked, then the link started with the
marriage of John Files and Carherine Manley in 1759. I ended up being able to
link with those Manleys through a lot of hard internet work. You may want to
contact Charlie Files ( see Files Genforum )

Good Luck,

Tom Reynolds
