FILKINS, Oneida county, NY, 1850

Seeing ancestry of Mary Ann FILKINS. She was born 8 Nov 1824, Augusta, Oneida County, New York; married Levi SPAFFORD 4 Sep 1842; she died 17 Oct 1875 at Chester, Eaton county, Michigan.

She is said to be the daughter of John and Polly (LARABEE) FILKINS, but I have no proof.

The family of Levi and Mary Ann (FILKINS) SPAFFORD appears in the 1850 New York census, Oneida county, town of Vernon, page 74.

Listed on the same census page are two FILKINS families:

John FILKINS, age 62, mason; Rebecca, age 38; Daniel, age 13,; and John, age 7. All in this family are shown as "paupers."

James FILKINS, age 41, laborer; Sally Ann, age 40; James, age 17; Amy, age 14 and Louisa, age 6.

A special New York census in 1855, shows these SPAFFORD and FILKINS families no longer lived in Vernon.

Are John FILKINS and James FILKINS respectively the father and brother of my Mary Ann FILKINS?
