It's been a long while since you originally posted your question so my apologies if this is a little redundant now...I just located this website!

Don't know if this helps but research on my branch of the Filkin family turned up a R.T.N. Filkin, who was a student at the Liverpool Institute High School for Boys and who died serving in WW1. The school has a website.
