Researching the FINAN/FINNAN family of Athlone and Court Devenish, Co. Westmeath, Ireland. Martin FINAN and Ann McGARRY, were parents of Martin FINNAN who married Mary Ann Donohue, 22 July 1893, in St. Mary's Athlone. Witnesses were Michael O'Connor and Helen Hagney. Mary Ann was a daughter of James "Donoghue" and Mary Egan. Children of Martin and Mary Ann were 1) Mary Catherine FINNAN, b. 25 August 1894; 2) Ann FINAN, b. 17 October 1898; 3) James FINAN, b. 3 July 1902, and 4) Peter John FINNAN, later FINAN, b. 20 June 1904. The 4th child was also known as John Patrick FINAN. He was a member of na Fianna Eireann and later the Oglaigh na hEireann, or Irish Republic Army, and was shot and seriously wounded during the Irish Civil War. His father, Martin FINNAN, was a member of the Connaught Rangers, serving out of Athlone. Any information on this family would be appreciated. vp
