For several Finan names, see

I was at St. Basil's in 1972 for a friend's funeral and spotted the gravestone of Patrick Finan which said he was born in Kilkeevin, Co. Roscommon. I don't remember his dates, but it seems he was born in the 1820s. Later I met a lady related to this family and she said a family memory is that several Finan brothers came to America and split up. Patrick came to Williamsport, Pennsylvania on the train then walked to Dushore to find work. I asked her why the family lost touch with their family in Ireland and she said she was told "There was no welcome for empty letters in Ireland."

My interest is that my great great grandmother, Nellie Finan, lived in or near Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, the parish of Kilkeevin, and was born in the 1820s.
