Hi James
I am responding to you on this forum as I think it important to use it as a means of sharing information so all can join in!!! There must be a few more people interested in the surname!! I didn't realise you had a message on this forum as you didn't reply to my message (therefore I wasn't notified I had a response, if you see what I mean).
In your last message to me (and I see in your message here) that your Fingleton family was from county Laois - so was Elizabeth (who married Nicholas Doyle) Fingleton's father - he was William Fingleton and he married in Quebec, Canada in 1832 so he must have been born in the very early 1800s. In his marriage record it says he is the son of Michael Fingleton and Betsy Mulhall of county Queens (but we know that is REALLY county Laois!!!). They had nine children - with Elizabeth being the oldest - all born in Grand Riviere, Quebec.
I wonder how common the name is in Ireland - do you know? I see we are the only two with a message on the Fingleton forum!!
Have you done any searching in Ireland? I will let it go at that as I am interested in finding the Doyle descendants of Elizabeth and not really in the Fingleton families. However, if I do come across anything, I'll let you know (on this forum). All the best, Carole
