I am the great granddaughter of Maria Vinkenvleugel Vanderheiden and have a great deal of information regarding her father Hermannus as well as having recently visited the grave site of Maria and Lambert. Maria's mother did not die enroute to America, that is an error that has been passed down through my family for 3 generations. I recently acquired copies of 2 letters that Hermanus wrote home to his family in the Netherlands in 1885 that states that his first wife was ill for 2 years before she died. I believe that she probably died in Boston, but at the time of the letters written by Hermanus himself, he was with his third wife and they had 7 or 8 children. I have been unable to get any information regarding wife number 2. If you would like to have copies of the letters, please email me direct at mreese@flash.net.
