In response to another posting, I put up the following, which may be of more general interest: Two Finlay brothers (ancestors of mine) moved to Texas circa 1873. I was always told that "the Finlays spelled l-a-y are relatives because the others spelled the name l-e-y." However, I am finding that not to be the case. My father's cousin put together a 189-page book on our Finlays, complete with photos, etc. In that book he lists a Robert Kay Finlay (1845-1938) who was part of the migration to Texas. RKF's children were James, (1879-1966), Alexander (1880-1954), Isabella (1882-1968), Robert Kay F., Jr. (1883 - ?), William (1885-1978), Donald (1887-1963), Agnes (1888-1978), Mary (1891-1983), and Margaret (1895-1926). The book also lists descendents of these. Robert K. Finlay's (1845-1938)siblings were: James(1838-1919), Agnes (1841-1923), Mary Farmer F. (1843-1926), William (1847-1937), John Kay F. (1849-1938), and Alexander (1853-1932). Robert K. Finlay's father was James Finlay (1816-1892). The rest of the chart goes like this: (1) William Finlay (1712-1792) (2) William Finlay (1741-1823) (3) William F (1764-1771) (3) George (1766-1769) (3) James (1768-1769) (3) Christian (1770-1826) (3) Robert (1772-1852) (3) Jean (1774-1786) (3) Janet (1776-1779) (3) Margaret (1779-1858) (3) William (1782-1784) (3) James (1784-1862) THIS IS THE FATHER OF JAMES (1816-1892) Listed above. (3) David Finlay (1786-1787) TOWNS IN TEXAS THESE FINLAY DESCENDENTS LIVE IN: The book shows Finlays from this family in Texas in: Austin, Waldrip, Fife, Brady, San Angelo, San Marcos, Texas City, Fort Worth, Coleman, Dallas, Port Aurthur, Lubbock, Mason, Gainesville, Denton, Menard, Lohn, Eldorado, Dime Box, Junction, Schleicher County, Santa Ana, San Saba, McCamey, Teaque, Fairfield, Lampasas, Abilene, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Arlington, Fort Sam Houston, Logo Vista, Lohn, Brownwood, Houston, Rock Springs, Andrews, Leaday, Herford, Kingsland.
