My Thomas' father was Alexander McCartney. I estimate he was born about 1830, possibly in Ireland. He was an engineer's laborer. He died before Thomas married in 1870.

Thomas was born about 1851 according to his marriage record. I am assuming in Glasgow. Thomas and his wife lived on Finnieston St. Glasgow for many years.

Not much help for you, but at least you can rule this particular Thomas out.
