I have the complete Northern Standard article of this atrocity which occurred in the early 1920's when roaming bands of IRA criminals murdered those of the Protestant religion. The Dean's house was set on fire, his wife had been assured that no harm would come to her husband. My grandfather, who unknown to the IRA, had acquired an Austrian rifle, opened fire on the attackers of our home in County Monaghan. They had expected farmers to have only shotguns so the use of these Austrian rifles was a big surprise. My grandfather is reputed to have allowed the attackers to take away their casualties in a horse & cart next morning.
