Hi Anne,
Has your article on Kathy Fiscus ever been published?I would love to read it.I have been searching for information on Kathy for the past several months.
In November 2004, while my father was fighting a battle with leukemia, as I sat in the hospital with him, we talked at length. He told me the reason why he wanted me named Cathy is because of little Kathy Fiscus. He related her tragic story to me.I was born in 1949.My mother hadn't even known, she just knew that my dad insisted on my being named Cathie. He didn't care how it was spelled, just so I was Cathy. My mother came up with the C and the "ie" ending.
You mentioned in one of your posts that people are forgetting about her.Yes, I was shocked that the people in the San Marino area are forgetting about her.I found that at the 50th anniversary of her death, there was a memorial service at the sight of her fall, which is now part of a high school field.I contacted local service organizations trying to find information on Kathy who were suppose to have sponsored the events, but no one knew anything. . .I ended up educating them!
I found that laws are named after her and through Time magazine, I received a copy of the article that appeared in the April 18, 1949 issue that has her photo in it.I have it framed and in my study.I feel so fortunate to have been named after her; it is such a shame that her death was a needless one.
I would be thrilled if you could send me anything that you may have written or copies of photos.I am going to check with the US Census to see how many girls born in 1949 - 1951 were named Kathy/Cathy.I'm sure a lot.
Any information on her family. What a horrible ordeal for them all.
Regards. . .
