Thank you so much for all that information. We are talking about the same Matilda Ellen Fishwick who I have followed through from the 1871 to the 1901.
In 1901 she is a widow at 27 Everton Gardens, Preston as you said - her eldest son Richard Fowler was 16. He married my late father's step sister Grace Whitfield in 1916 in Preston.
I do not know if they had children. I grew up in Preston and new 'Aunty Grace' who by then was a fairly old lady living by herself in Egan Street, Preston (now pulled down). My parents (both deceased) did not seem to have much to do with her for some reason so I never knew any of her family.
But I would like to find out more about her and Richard.
You seem to have them on census but didn't mention the 1891 where she is still at 27 Everton Gardens with her husband Richard, children Elizabeth Ellen 4, Thomas 3, John 1, her parents and a Winifred Fishwick 19.
If you want any info. on Grace for your family tree let me know.
Regards and thanks again, Pauline
