I have some data in my files about Fishwicks in Barnoldswick in the late-1800s. These will probably be a generation apart from your grandfather (possibly including his grandfather) but I guess it shouldn't be too difficult to plug the gap. I'll have to come back to you again with the details but thought I'd send this initial response to let you know that there's some hope.
