DNA Testing
Robert Fitts 3/18/12
What you stated in your first sentence is true the Northern Branch of the Fitts Family is not related to the Southern Branch. There are exceptions because some Soutnerns move North and vice versa.I lived in Massachusetts for 40 years and my Fitts Branch is totally Southern, born in Alabama. In the Southern Fitts Family there are at lease four separate branches in VA, NC, SC, and GA.We have only the one branch in New England steming from Robert Fitz (Fitts) of Ipswich & Salisbury 1639.If they connect in any way it would be across the Atlantic. The Southern branch stems from Robert Fits (Fitts) of James Island and Archer's Hope, VA in 1624.I included the African Branch in my Southern count. We know the above through DNA results. If we look at the DNA results there are more families with the Fitts surname.I have been following the Fitts families for more than twenty years now and still have needles that have not been found. If you look at Ireland, England, France and Germany you will find more Fitz, Fitts and other speliings of the surname there and they are not related.
