Hello, Bill Fitzgerel.

You mention that Fitzgerel can be spelled in a whole variety of ways, i.e., Fitzgerel, Fitzgeral, Fitzgerald, Fitzgerrell, Fitzjerald, FitzGerald, Fitsgerel, and so on....

Are you aware that MANY early records for the surname FITZGERALD actually show up without the "fitz" -- so that there are many more variant spellings for your surname, including:

Jarrell
Jerrell
Gerald
Jarrells
Jerrells

AND... I recently learned that not only all those abbreviated versions of FITZ-gerald all relate to the same surname, but that sometimes, the surname ended up being spelled like this:

Garred
Garrett
Girit

I also came across some interesting old postings about the origin of the surname FITZGERALD, and I will post them to 'your' FITZGEREL forum - just in case they are of interest to anyone.

Good luck in your genealogical research.
