My Fitzrandolph ancestor was Ruth Fitzrandolph, daughter of Nathaniel Fitzrandolph and Rebekah Mershon. Ruth Fitzrandolph married Christopher Skillman in 1761. Christopher and Ruth left New Jersey not long after that and traveled South to Louden Co. Virginia, and into Kentucky.
The children of Christopher and Ruth (Fitzrandolph) Skillman were Asiah, Abigail, Sarah, Permely, Mary, Rebekah, Isaac. Isaac is my line, his wife is unknown and he died unknown.
I am curious what inspired Christopher and Ruth to leave their families and travel to the rugged untamed new territories. Both of their families were very well off and respected. Was it family problems?
I know very little of this family from the time they left New Jersey. I do know Isaac their son settled in Alabama. Does anyone know anymore on this family, brothers and sisters of Isaac. Danny J. Skillman, skilled@hopper.net
