Old document with "fitz"
An old document, the Norman-English charter of the city of Cork in Ireland, contains the word, "fitz", as an old French word for "son".The document is dated between 1185 and 1199.
""Johan le fitz au roi d'Engleterre seygnour d'Irlaund etc. salutz"
""Johan le fitz au roi d'Engleterre seygnour d'Irlaund etc. salutz"I think it translates fairly closely to this:"John, the son of the king of Englandlord of Ireland etc. greets (or sends greetings)"
