Dan,

An interesting side to this is that as people told me about this I kept hearing Fun..frock, but when I saw it in writing the light bulb came on it is Funf (5 in German)....rock (a skirt in german, but the older germans used it as a word for coat, jacket, robe). I haven't persued the actual records yet but I am familiar with the Schwabweiler area they were supposed to have come from and that is in an area that over the years has sometimes belonged to Germany and sometimes to France. Just some free floating thoughts.
