There are several ways of obtaining an obituary. First you should check the Bay County forum, or other appropriate county forum. Many of the forums have volunteers that will do a lookup for the cost of postage and printing. Check the old messages or post a message and maybe one will respond. Most libraries have back issues of newspapers for their local area, and some will do a lookup for a dollar or two and the cost of postage and printing if you have the exact date of death. You may want to check and see if the library has a website and/or write them a letter to see if they will do a lookup.
If all you have is the month and year from the social security death index (which isn't always accurate for date of death) you may want to consider ordering a death certificate from the state, which will give the exact date of death, and location, not to mention all kinds of other neat and useful information.
If all else fails, I will do lookups. I'm fortunate enough to have access to microfilm copies of newspapers from all over the state. I'll need the exact date of death, and the county where the person died. Please e-mail for more information.
