Martins and Gainers of Washington County (now Bay County).

On or about the 25 of March 1870 my gg-grandfather, James Edward Martin was drowned in a boating accident in the Gulf of Mexico near Panama City, FL.

I do not know for certain but I believe that his son-in-law Thomas Henry Gainer may have drowned in the same accident.

I believe that the boat may have been owned by a brother of Thomas Henry Gainer and that he may have also been a son-in-law of James Edward Martin.

Do any of you Bay Countians have any knowledge or this boating accident?

An accident taking at least two lives would have surely gotten a write up in a local paper. Do any of you know the names of any newspapers in that area at that time?

Thanks,

C. Burton
