Charlotte,
Obits being what they are in the Broward/Dade county area, I would advise requesting a death certificate. It will provide more information. You can download the request,$5.00 and a couple of weeks and you should have a burial site. They might be able to provide more information on living relatives.Have you tried locating his wife in the Florida's death index on Ancestry? That also can give you a death date and some more information to work with.
