Joan, Here are some excerpts from "Holmesteading, The History of Holmes County, Florida" by E. W. Carswell, 1986: Page 115--Twenty-nine citizens of what had already been established as Noma by U.S. postal authorities and the Louisville & Nashville Railroad gathered at noon on June 27, 1904, at W. H. Gilbert's store to form a municipal corporation. They voted unanimously to incorporate and to approve a seal containing the work, "Noma." Page 116--Both Esto and Noma had been named two years earlier by L & N Railroad officials after they had conferred with some residents of each community. They explained that the word "Noma" was of Greek derivation, alluding to "lush pastures." Hope this helps! Nancy Notify Administrator about this message?
