J.B. Singleterry on 1840 Jackson Co., FL census

I am searching for more information about what Jackson County, FL was like in 1840 when J.B. Singleterry was on this census. How large was Jackson County back then? I know that J.B. Singleterry and his wife, Nancy moved to Rusk Co., TX by 1850 (or Nancy and kids moved after J.B. Singleterry died?) J.B. Singleterry's son, Robert Singleterry was also on this 1840 census and his wife, Rena or Garena, or Serena Patterson. If anyone finds any reference to these families in any of their records I'd be curious to hear about it. If anyone has access to land records for this time period, I'd sure be curious as to when these Singleterrys bought their land there. I'm mostly curious if Jackson County was bigger back then and if it used to border on Leon County (I know that Wakulla County didn't exist until 1843 when it was formed from Leon County), so wondered about that as some Pattersons in Leon County may have been related to this Rena Patterson...I'm not sure. I do know that our J.B. Singleterry was on the 1830 census in Bladen Co., NC
