DUKES COMMUNITY CEMETERY, GROVELAND, LAKE COUNTY, FL For those of you that have relatives buried at Dukes Cemetery, Groveland, Lake County, FL: The annual meeting of “The Cemetery Association” - Dukes Community Cemetery, in Groveland, Lake County, Florida, will be on August 9, 2003, at 2:00 P.M. The annual meeting is always held on the 2nd Saturday of August, but you should confirm date & time. Please try to attend for the benefit of genealogical research. There must be funeral and/or burial records for all of those interred at this cemetery. How do we get access to them?? I visited this cemetery last year to find the graves of several of my family members & take pictures of their headstones. Since then, I have been trying to obtain more information on their burial records & membership in this “cemetery association” – and hopefully more information on other family members. But have been unsuccessful in getting any cooperation or assistance from the “association”. Burial at this cemetery is restricted to “members” only, so I would think that there must be records on past members & the payment of their “dues”. And somehow, more funds of the “cemetery association” need to be allocated for maintenance & upkeep of the grounds on a regular basis. Last year, it appeared that the grounds had only been recently mowed for the “annual meeting”, and several tombstones had been damaged. Does anyone have any contacts in Lake County who would know where all the records are kept for Dukes Community Cemetery?? I have a copy of the complete survey of Dukes Community Cemetery, if anyone would like a lookup. There is a partial listing here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~fllake/dukes.htm Only 38 of the 179 graves surveyed are posted at the site. Dukes Community Cemetery / Groveland, Fl Directions: Go approximately 1 mile North of Groveland on route 19. Turn west (left) on county road (Bible Camp Rd.) #2-1615. Cemetery is 0.6 miles on the left. Read July 6, 1983 by Sue Dygert and Jackie Haworth. Thank you!! BGH 17 June 2003 Notify Administrator about this message?
