John F. Thompson emigrated to the U.S., from the Bahamas, in 1878. He evidently went to Cedar Keys (Mid-west) and married Margaret McCreary there. They had sons born on North Key there and then he migrated to Key West about 1896 where he had several more children. His family mostly stayed in Key West where his last son Ernest Thompson died in the late 1990's.
Anyone with later info on these Thompsons, I've found John F. and his family in the 1900 Census in Monroe County, Key West, please send me a line.
