The location you are looking for was called "Deerland". It was between Crestview and Defuniak Springs. According to the 1920 census Robert Hanes was the head of household, age 46. He and his father were born in Ga, and his mother in AL. With him in the household are wife, Lovely, 41 who like both her parents were born in Florida. Daughters: Laler, 17; Fannie, 15; Lether, 13. Sons: Ellerbea (might be Ellenbea) 8; and Roosevelt, 6. All the children attended school in 1919 they could all read except the youngest. Robert could also read and write. He and daughter Laler were employed by the turpentine farm as were many of the residents of the Deerland Community.
