I am not sure if this will help, but here's what I have:
John Crawford Bass (1862-1929), married Mary Martha Simmons 1880 in Orange Co., FL. His brother,
Richard Bass (1849-1936) married Mary's sister, Sarah L. Simmons. I am descended from Mary and Sarah's brother, Robert Wilson "Duck" Simmons. THREE other sisters married men named Bass - all related to Crawford and Richard. I don't have a complete list of siblings for Crawford and Richard, so your David may have been a sibling.

Richard and Sarah Simmons Bass's son, Everett Bass, also married a Shiver too!
