Ralph,

Mr. E.W. Carswell, on page 133 of his book "Washington, Florida's Twelfth County" says "The U.S. Census of 1850 , five years after statehood and 11 years before Secession, lists Richard Fannin and John Tabor as the county's only professional teachers. Fannin apparently resided in the St. Andrews Bay area and Tabor in the Holmes Valley region."

St. Andrews Bay is now part of Bay County but was Washington at that time.

If you would like a copy of that page, send a postal address.
