John - Thanks for the explanation of the name. I just returned from Ireland and fould my GGGF, Daniel, listed in the 1901 census as FLAVIN and the 1911 Census as FLAHAVAN. This makes research tricky but not impossible. My branch of the FLAHAVANs appear to have their roots in Fermoy, County Cork.
