from cork ireland name o flaithaimin translates from irish meaning chief or leader. mentioned in old irish genealogy book of irish clans written by monks in the 9th/10th century called "annals of the four masters". this book records all the principle gaelic septs/clans of ireland. clan lands recorded in county waterford where the name is still very common.
