Cheryl,
I found some additional info you may be interested in. According to the 1850 census, John C. Flake was 46 years old and a farmer. His wife was listed as Mary, age 45. Children: Penny age 20, Mancel age 17, Lydia age 13, Hyman age 11, Elizabeth age 8.
I have been trying to find the father of John. I believe his father's name was Mancel, but don't have a name for his mother. According to the 1850 census, Mancel Flake was 77 and a farmer. In his household was Tempy, age 42. Don't know if she is a wife or daughter.
Pam
