Jill,
My Great Great Grandfather, John Wesley FLAKE died intestate in 1854 in Anson Co., NC.However, I have found a copy of his estate inventory; The following Slaves were living on his plantation at the time of his death:Frank, Rose, Mourning and her son George, Ned, Harriett, Ephraim, Sherwood, Daniel, Curtis, Mary, Martha, Clovine, Frances, Ann, Aaron, James, Wade, Alexandria, Dorcus, Hal, Tony, Joseph and Amy.
Should you find that your ancestors were FLAKEs as opposed to BLAKEs, maybe this will be of some assistance at a later date.
Good hunting !!
